Lyft brings more drivers and shorter wait times to Irish passengers through Lynk and Swift acquisitions
The acquisitions bring two of Ireland's leading phone-based taxi dispatchers into the Freenow by Lyft ecosystem
Dublin, July 31, 2026 — Lyft, through Freenow by Lyft, today announced the acquisition of Lynk and Swift, Dublin and Limerick’s leading phone-based taxi dispatchers, respectively. The acquisitions reinforce Lyft's long-term commitment to Ireland. Freenow is already the country's leading taxi app, and the acquisitions will add more tours across the company’s business.
Lynk is a longstanding Dublin phone-booking taxi dispatcher and a trusted B2B partner to the public sector and hundreds of local businesses. 35-year-old Swift, known locally as 313131, is the number one dispatcher in Limerick and a vital B2B partner to the pharmaceutical and health sectors across the city.
Bringing Lynk and Swift into the Freenow ecosystem means that passengers can expect faster pickup times soon thanks to more drivers, and drivers can expect more tours from more passengers when the platform is combined. Soon, drivers from both companies will be available not only by phone, but also through the Freenow by Lyft app.
All of the B2B clients and city partners of Lynk and Swift can expect operations to continue as smoothly as they do today. The teams will stay on in this transition, maintaining and prioritizing the deep local knowledge that they're known for.
While Europe’s taxi aggregation market is expanding rapidly, over half of all bookings in Ireland are still made offline today. Integrating Lynk and Swift’s phone-based dispatch capabilities builds on Freenow’s existing foundation as Ireland’s #1 taxi app. This announcement follows Lyft’s recent acquisition of Gett's UK business, a leading London black cab app with a strong corporate B2B presence. While the company is not disclosing the specific terms of these transactions, both are financially immaterial to Lyft.
Danny O'Gorman, General Manager at Freenow by Lyft Ireland, said: “Limerick has always been important to us — it's one of the first cities Freenow launched in Ireland, and Swift's position as the city's top dispatcher builds directly on that history. At the same time, Lynk strengthens our position in business travel, an area we're actively growing. Across both, our focus is the same: working with drivers to deliver prompt, safe, reliable service for passengers.”
Noel Ebbs, CEO at Lynk, said: "As a leading taxi dispatcher and a trusted B2B partner for many local businesses, we're excited to start a new chapter with Lyft. Together, we’ll be able to continue the excellent service we’ve provided to clients and passengers, and make more trips available to drivers.”
A spokesperson for Swift Taxis, added: "After 35 years serving Limerick, we're looking forward to the future with Lyft. Combining our local roots with Freenow by Lyft's technology means we can keep Limerick moving, with even better taxi service for drivers, passengers, and business partners across the city."
